• Corina McDonald hearts the web.

In my past life, I worked in social change, managing a crisis line. I built an Access database for the program in 1996, & a love affair was begun. I designed & built several small-scale databases before learning webcraft in 2006.

These days, I work primarily as a web developer. I love handcoding html & css, utilizing javascript libraries such as Jquery, & creating dynamic sites with php/mysql. I excel at middle-tier work, including customizing Joomla! & Wordpress templates, due to my background in database design & work in both front- & backend coding.

I'm interested in user experience & info architecture, in making sites that are intuitively navigable, logically conceived, & user-friendly. I work in Dreamweaver but eschew its generated code. I'm a bit of a snob that way. I use Photoshop to do light photo editing & optimization.

    2009 | Brooklyn-Based Designer

This project required me to design, develop, and maintain a new site for Brooklyn-based designer who specializes in home decor. It was coded in HTML with a single CSS stylesheet and heavy use of the Jquery library.

We chose to go with a one-page design that utilizes a fade-in effect on a Jquery gallery to display product photos on the main page. The gallery includes a lightwindow function to show groupings of photos as albums, and to include some details about the product. This allows a prospective client to find all the information they might need quickly and easily on the front page.

We used CSS and the Jquery library to style modal windows for the narrative portions, primarily about the designer and her work.

2009 | Washington State Dental Health Education for Kids

I was brought in on this project to revise a site created in PHP/MySQL. It was revamped to reflect the options presented on the video screen of a kiosk, requiring us to greatly reduce the top-level directory and find creative ways to display a large variety of information in a touch-screen friendly, space-saving format.

To this end, I rebuilt the database and worked with the existing code to simplify the end result. I redesigned and replaced all page-heading photos, and implemented the mootools multi-level accordion shown in thie screenshot. This allowed us to display former subdirectories as "newspaper folds" with content visible when the accordion section was selected.
